No More Premier Dad for Ontario

Premier Dalton McGuinty has promised many things, but he also has avoided fulfilling many of them. However, his new law to teach children--even the very youngest--about sexual functions and the names of various sexual body parts drew such an outcry that he remodeled the law.
In an effort to make the province 'greener,' he introduced Smart hydro meters. (They will begin using them next spring in the London area.) Users will be charged according to when they switch on the air conditioner, electric stove or iron. Most economic time is claimed to be at 9 p.m. Give us a break! During a heat wave, who would want to wait until nightfall before turning on the AC? Of course, the concept of this is to make us pay higher rates for power in order to use less of the commodity. After all, they pay more for electricity in Europe don't they? Then why shouldn't we? This money-grabber will hurt seniors and the poorest among us, even although the Liberal government relented to the point of sending rebates to those earning less than $20,000 per annum.
Another vote-killer is the harmonized sales tax (HST). It may somehow benefit businesses, but it also places a drag on the economy by removing dollars from the pockets of the population--the very people whom businesses need to make them prosper.
This government will not be receiving my vote.--Irvine Brace

  2. I think the flip flop that Harper has done is, if not surprising, upsetting. Why should we take seriously any future pronouncement(s)?
